At least three people carjacked a vehicle in Maryland, then led police on an early-morning chase that resulted in a shootout in D.C.
The carjacking was reported at about 3:10 a.m. on the 4700 block of Silverhill Road in Suitland, said Cpl. Henry Tippett, a Prince George’s County police spokesman.
Police pursued two vehicles — the victim’s and another car following it — into the District. The chase ended when the suspects crashed near Randle Circle and Minnesota Avenue in the Southeast.
Two suspects left their vehicle and fired at officers, Tippett said. He said one officer returned fire. No one was injured.
Both suspects, whose names were not released, were apprehended after a brief foot pursuit. A handgun was also recovered from the scene, Tippett said.
Police are still looking for the carjacked vehicle, a burgundy Toyota Avalon.
