Pence jokes in Ohio: My wife couldn’t be here because she had dinner plans

Mike Pence responded with a sense of humor to the criticism he’s faced since a recent profile on second lady Karen Pence included a comment the vice president made in 2002 about never eating alone with a woman other than his wife.

“Speaking of my wife Karen, she’s really sorry she couldn’t be with us today, she already had dinner plans,” Pence said Saturday while at an event in Columbus, Ohio.

More than a decade ago, Pence said in an interview that he never eats alone with a woman other than his wife and he won’t attend events with alcohol without his wife by his side.

The resurfaced comments prompted outrage from the Left.

President Trump came to the couple’s defense on Friday, saying they two have “one hell of a good marriage going.”
