Three people were sent to the hospital after a Silver Spring crash involving a Montgomery County police officer.

Police said the crash happened at about 11:55 p.m. Monday, when Officer Brendan Hopkins, 25, lost control of his police cruiser while responding to a call.

He was driving south on Colesville Road and struck the center median before crossing into the northbound lanes and colliding with a Toyota Corolla, police said. The Corolla then struck two parked vehicles in a driveway on the 9300 block of Colesville Road.

Police said late Tuesday morning that it’s still unknown why Hopkins lost control of his vehicle.

Hopkins, who has been on the force for one year, was taken to Washington Hospital Center with non-life-threatening injuries. He has been released.

The Corolla driver, 62-year-old Yvonne Wilson, and a passenger, 66-year-old Lorenzo Wilson, both of Hyattsville, remain hospitalized at Suburban Hospital. Their injuries are not considered life-threatening, police said.

Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to call police at 301-840-2435.
