CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (AP) — A South Texas man has been sentenced to life in prison for helping run a drug ring and concealing the proceeds through cattle and vehicle auctions.
A federal judge in Corpus Christi on Thursday sentenced 55-year-old Ricardo Guerrero of Mathis. Guerrero must also forfeit three properties and pay a $500,000 judgment.
Jurors in March convicted Guerrero of conspiracy to commit drug trafficking, conspiracy to launder money and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Prosecutors say methamphetamine, heroin and cocaine were smuggled from Mexico through Brownsville, McAllen or Laredo and stored in properties owned by Guerrero, then distributed.
More than 20 drug ring co-conspirators who worked for Guerrero have pleaded guilty and were sentenced to prison.
