Matt Gaetz defends Katie Hill amid ethics investigation: ‘This is just absurd’

Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz called the ethics investigation into Rep. Katie Hill “absurd” amid claims she had multiple affairs with members of her staff.

Last week, allegations that Hill had two separate affairs with staff members surfaced. The first allegation claimed Hill has a romantic relationship with Graham Kelly, her current legislative director.

The second allegation, which was reported by RedState, asserted that Hill was in a three-person relationship with her estranged husband and a campaign staffer. That report also included nude photos of Hill and the staffer.

Hill apologized and admitted to the relationship with the campaign staffer but denied that she was romantically involved with Kelly, which would violate House ethics rules.

The House Ethics Committee announced Wednesday that it would be investigating the allegations made against Hill.

In response to the investigation, Gaetz came to Hill’s defense and claimed she was targeted for being “different,” not because she harmed anyone.

Gaetz noted that he and Hill disagree on most political issues, but maintained that she is a “thoughtful” member of Congress.

The two both serve on the House Armed Services Committee.
