Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., on Thursday dismissed claims made by a third woman and her lawyer Michael Avenatti that Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh has a history of sexual assault.
“I don’t buy this,” Graham told Fox News on Thursday morning. “I don’t believe any reasonable person would go to a party where people are being drugged and raped and not tell anybody about it, but keep going ten times over a two-year period.”
Julie Swetnick came out with allegations Wednesday that she witnessed Kavanaugh acting aggressively towards women, spiking their drinks and inappropriately touching them without consent at multiple high school parties. She also says Kavanaugh witnessed her as she was gang-raped at one of these parties.
“That is the most devastatingly over-the-top bad accusation that tells me all I need to know,” Graham said.
This third accuser, following Christine Blasey Ford and Deborah Ramirez’s claims, is being represented by Avenatti, who also represents Stormy Daniels in her lawsuit against President Trump.
“There is no indication that this is the kind of person [Kavanaugh] is,” Graham said. “Brett Kavanaugh says, ‘I never met [Julie Swetnick].’ Avenatti is her attorney. If you can’t figure this out, then there’s something wrong with you. This makes zero sense.”
Graham said the accusations made are a nonstarter, and said a 35-year-old sexual assault accusation with little evidence wouldn’t even “get out of the batter box” in most cases.
Avenatti said Thursday morning that it is “impossible” that all three women accusing Kavanaugh of sexual assault are lying.
Kavanaugh denies the accusations, and even said he does not know Swetnick and has never met her before.
