Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein pleaded not guilty Monday to additional sexual assault charges related to incidents involving a third woman in 2006.
Weinstein appeared in Manhattan Criminal Court in New York and was released on bail, according to reports.
A grand jury indicted the disgraced producer last week on two counts of predatory sexual assault and one count of committing a criminal act in the first degree. If convicted, Weinstein faces up to life in prison for the charges of predatory sexual assault.
Weinstein was already indicted in May on two counts of rape in the first and third degrees and one count of criminal sexual act in the first degree for forcible sexual acts against two women in 2004 and 2013.
“A Manhattan grand jury has now indicted Harvey Weinstein on some of the most serious sexual offenses that exist under New York’s penal law,” Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr. said last week. “This indictment is the result of the extraordinary courage exhibited by the survivors who have come forward.”
Weinstein’s lawyers have maintained he is not guilty.
Allegations of sexual assault and misconduct against Weinstein were first revealed by the New York Times and the New Yorker last year.
Dozens of women came forward to detail their experiences with Weinstein, including actresses Angelina Jolie, Ashley Judd, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Salma Hayek.
The accusations involving Weinstein launched the #MeToo movement, which brought the issue of sexual misconduct to the forefront as women across the country detailed their experiences with sexual assault and harassment.
The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office and the New York Police Department launched an investigation into Weinstein last year.
