The Senate this summer is gearing up for a major political battle over the confirmation of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, who is poised to push the high court bench in a conservative direction for the first time in decades.

Kavanaugh was nominated on July 9 and has already met privately with nearly half the Senate, although only a few of them have been Democrats.
