Ann Coulter praises Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib

Ann Coulter, a conservative commentator and hard-line immigration proponent, praised Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., and Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., for voting against a bill to increase the per-country cap on family-based immigrant visas and eliminate the cap on employer-based immigrant visas.

“Wow. 140 Republicans voted to sell out the American worker with H.R. 1044 (removing country caps for cheap foreign labor), while Ilhan and Rashida voted FOR the American worker,” Coulter said Tuesday on Twitter. “[K]udos to Rashida and Ilhan for voting against the GOP’s Chamber-of-Commerce cheap foreign labor bill.”

The Fairness for High-Skilled Immigrants Act of 2019 passed Wednesday the Democratic controlled House on a 365-65 bipartisan vote. The bill raised the cap on green cards for skilled labor.

The praise from Coulter follows President Trump telling Omar and Tlaib to “go back” to their home countries. The two congresswomen, along with Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Rep. Ayanna Pressley, responded by holding a press conference Monday during which Omar accused Trump’s tweets of being “the agenda of white naitonalists.”

Coulter has been known for her outspoken positions, especially on immigration. In 2015, she voiced her support for Trump’s immigration policies with this statement, which caused controversy: “I don’t care if @realDonaldTrump wants to perform abortions in White House after this immigration policy paper.”
