White House chief of staff Mark Meadows has been discussing whether to bring in a new press secretary.
Sources familiar with the private discussions told Axios that Pentagon spokeswoman Alyssa Farah and Trump campaign spokeswoman Kayleigh McEnany are under consideration.
Meadows, who started his chief of staff role on Tuesday, has met with Farah in recent days and discussed the position with her. Farah was communications director for Meadows when he chaired the House Freedom Caucus and was Vice President Mike Pence’s press secretary before she took the Pentagon job in August.
Stephanie Grisham, who has held the press secretary role as well as communications director since July, has never held a formal daily briefing. Her domain also spans to the East Wing, where she is first lady Melania Trump’s communications director.
It’s unclear if Grisham would keep her other roles if she’s replaced as press secretary.
“Sounds like more palace intrigue to me, but I’ve also been in quarantine. If true, how ironic that the press secretary would hear about being replaced in the press,” Grisham said.
