LOS ANGELES (AP) — Sheriff’s homicide detectives say they’re investigating the fatal shooting of two men who struggled over control of a handgun before one was shot and the other committed suicide.

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s officials say deputies responded to reported gunshots at 1 a.m. Sunday on the 400 block of East 138th Street in Los Angeles.

Witnesses told detectives the two men were hanging out with others outside when one man took out a handgun. A second man tried to take it away from him and a brief struggle ensued.

The handgun discharged, striking the second man in the upper torso. Then the first man turned the handgun on himself and fired once fatally.

Detectives recovered a handgun at the scene and are investigating.
