ATLANTIC BEACH, Fla. (AP) — The U.S. Coast Guard is alerting the public of a Navy exercise occurring near Port Canaveral that involves the use of bland ammunition and smoke flares.

The exercises began Thursday morning and are expected to continue through Aug. 7. They are being conducted from the Port Canaveral East Trident Basin out to 8 nautical miles southeast of the approach channel.
