‘He wants to be me’: Schwarzenegger responds to attacks from Trump

Arnold Schwarzenegger brushed off past attacks from President Trump and said he thinks the president is “in love” with him.

Schwarzenegger, who in addition to serving as the Republican governor of California also has been an actor and body builder, mused over Trump’s attacks against him to Men’s Health.

“I think he really — he’s in love with me,” Schwarzenegger, 72, said. “That’s the reality of it. With Trump, he wants to be me.”

Schwarzenegger took over for Trump as the host of reality game show The Apprentice, and Trump repeatedly trashed his performance as his replacement.

“Wow, the ratings are in and Arnold Schwarzenegger got ‘swamped’ (or destroyed) by comparison to the ratings machine, DJT,” Trump tweeted in 2017.

“Yes, Arnold Schwarzenegger did a really bad job as Governor of California and even worse on the Apprentice…but at least he tried hard!” he said in another.

The former governor has also mocked Trump, offering to compare tax returns and critiquing public comments the president has made. He defended late Sen. John McCain after Trump went after his earlier this year, calling the attacks “a shame.”
