The coronavirus pandemic has infected more than 200,000 people around the planet, according to data from Johns Hopkins University.
As of Wednesday morning, 201,436 people had been infected with the COVID-19 virus worldwide. China, where the outbreak began, is still home to the largest outbreak with more than 81,000 people infected. Italy and Iran carry the second and third largest outbreaks, with 31,500 and 16,100 cases, respectively. The United States has the eighth largest outbreak with nearly 6,500 confirmed cases of the coronavirus.
The global death toll also crossed a new threshold with more than 8,000 confirmed deaths connected to the illness. The Chinese Communist Party has reported more than 3,200 deaths, while Italy has confirmed more than 2,500 deaths. The U.S. reached 100 deaths on Tuesday.
Globally, more than 82,000 people have recovered from their confirmed cases of COVID-19 since the outbreak first began in December.
