NBA Commissioner Adam Silver donated the maximum contribution allowed to Joe Biden’s campaign.
Silver, 58, donated $2,800 to the former vice president on June 18, according to Federal Election Commission data. The contributor information lists Silver’s occupation as “commissioner” and his employer as the “NBA.”
Prior to that donation, the NBA commissioner donated $2,700 to Sen. Cory Booker’s presidential campaign in March 2019. He also made multiple donations to former President Barack Obama’s reelection campaign. In all, Silver has donated more than $20,000 to over a dozen Democratic candidates and political action committees.
The NBA, which is widely considered to be the most liberal professional sports league in the country, is planning to restart its season soon amid the coronavirus pandemic and widespread protests over racial inequality and police brutality.
Players, many of whom joined the protests throughout the country, are allowed to wear pre-approved social justice messages on their jerseys when the season restarts next month. Additionally, the NBA will support the Black Lives Matter movement by having the phrase “Black Lives Matter” painted on the court.
