House Republican says he’ll buy tickets for ‘anti-American,’ ‘anti-Semitic’ ‘squad’ to leave the country

Louisiana Rep. Ralph Abraham offered support of President Trump’s repeated sentiment that four female freshman lawmakers should leave the country if they’re unhappy with the United States.

Trump initially suggested that the congresswomen “go back” to the crime-infested place they came from in a Sunday tweet, and later reemphasized his point saying on Twitter, “Our Country is Free, Beautiful and Very Successful. If you hate our Country, or if you are not happy here, you can leave!”

Though Trump’s comments have been condemned by Democrats and several GOP lawmakers, Abraham, the son of Lebanese immigrants, hailed Trump’s criticism on Twitter saying, “There’s no question that the members of Congress that @realDonaldTrump called out have absolutely said anti-American and anti-Semitic things. I’ll pay for their tickets out of this country if they just tell me where they’d rather be.”

Abraham, a three-term congressman who has been supported by the Arab American Leadership Council, is currently running for governor of Louisiana. Abraham’s comments supporting Trump on Twitter were echoed moments later by Montana Sen. Steve Daines, who said, “Montanans are sick and tired of listening to anti-American, anti-Semite, radical Democrats trash our country and our ideals. This is America. We’re the greatest country in the world. I stand with @realdonaldtrump.”

The targeted Democratic members of “the squad,” Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, Rashida Tlaib of Michigan, Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, and Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts, condemned Trump’s remarks as “xenophobic” and “bigoted.”

The House of Representatives is planning to vote on a resolution condemning the president’s remarks.
