Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden said a poor response to the coronavirus pandemic has prompted people to learn to live and die with COVID-19.

“Number one, he says we are learning to live with that,” Biden said at the second and final presidential debate in Nashville, Tennessee, on Thursday. “People are learning to die with that. You folks at home who have an empty chair at the kitchen table this morning. That man or wife going to bed tonight or reaching over to try to touch out of habit where their wife or husband was is gone. Learning to live with that? Come on, we are dying with it.”

It would appear the former vice president stumbled on the delivery because his Twitter account followed up with a slightly different message.

“Learning to live with it? Come on. People are dying with it, Mr. President,” the tweet said.

Biden also claimed President Trump took no responsibility for the number of deaths that occurred as a result of the pandemic.

Trump said he took full responsibility, but then blamed China for the coronavirus making its way to the United States.

“I take full responsibility. It’s not my fault that it came here, it’s China’s fault,” Trump said. “And you know what, it’s not Joe’s fault that he came here either. It’s China’s fault.”

More than 8 million people in the U.S. have contracted the coronavirus, and more than 220,000 people have died of complications related to COVID-19.
