Huckabee: Obama’s Iran agreement is a ‘money deal’

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee has not backed down after drawing criticism across the ideological spectrum for comments he made likening the Iran deal to the Holocaust. Huckabee argued Sunday that the Obama administration’s desire for a deal with Iran was motivated by money.

“I believe it’s a money deal,” Huckabee said on CBS’ “Face the Nation.” “If you look through there are dozens of pages of all the companies and entities that are going to have their assets unfrozen. I cannot help but believe that a lot of this is being driven, not to secure peace in the Middle East, not to make the world safer, but to make sure that a lot of people with a lot of money get their money back.”

“That’s a tragedy. It’s a real sad state of affairs when we put money ahead of national security,” he said.

Huckabee said it was ridiculous for President Obama to trust the Iranians and he thinks the U.S. got nothing out of the deal.

The former governor will likely appear on the main stage of the first nationally televised debate on Fox News this week. RealClearPolitics’ average of polls surveying GOP voters shows Huckabee tied for fifth place with fellow presidential candidates Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and Florida Sen. Marco Rubio. The top ten candidates, according to recent nationwide polls hand-picked by Fox News, will appear at the first debate of Republican Party candidates on national television.
