McALLEN, Texas (AP) — Homeland Security Secretary Jeh (Jay) Johnson says 150 more Border Patrol agents are being sent to South Texas where authorities have been overwhelmed by an increase illegal immigration.
Johnson on Monday made his third visit in the last month and a half to the Border Patrol’s McAllen station in southernmost Texas. The station has been hardest hit by the more than 52,000 unaccompanied children arrested since October. It’s not clear if the new agents are temporary or permanent transfers.
