BRISTOL, Va. (AP) — Virginia State Police say three people are dead after a car slid into a tractor-trailer parked along Interstate 81 in Washington County.
State police spokeswoman Corinne Geller says the southbound tractor-trailer’s driver pulled the rig off onto the shoulder after it had a flat tire.
Geller says a southbound car ran off the interstate’s left side and its driver overcorrected. The car then slid sideways and hit the tractor-trailer’s rear.
The car’s driver, 19-year-old Abenezer D. Thewdros of Arlington, and two passengers were killed. Geller identified the passengers as 19-year-old Abel N. Ayele of Arlington and 25-year-old Alemu S. Ameha of Alexandria.
Another passenger, 19-year-old Arketsadik Yilma of Alexandria, was hospitalized with suffered serious injuries.
Geller says the tractor-trailer’s driver and a passenger weren’t injured.
The accident occurred Tuesday evening.
