The House Oversight Committee will begin a markup of a bill focusing on alleviating crime in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday, the same day that the Council of the District of Columbia plans to hold a vote on crime legislation.

The committee will meet on Tuesday morning to discuss several pieces of legislation, including House Resolution 5798, or the Protecting Our Nation’s Capital Emergency Act of 2023. The resolution looks to amend the D.C. government Comprehensive Merit Personnel Act of 1978 and restore police provisions that were rolled back by the Comprehensive Policing and Justice Reform Amendment Act of 2022.
