‘The View’ hosts debate chances of Biden winning in 2024

The hosts of The View got into a heated debate on Tuesday’s episode on whether President Joe Biden could win the presidential election this year.

Alyssa Farah Griffin questioned if voters would be willing to reelect Biden against former President Donald Trump, as Trump is now leading the Republican Party’s 2024 primary race. Griffin, who has voiced criticism of both Biden and Trump, stated that several polls have put Trump ahead of Biden, suggesting that the Democratic Party get a “generic Democrat” to run against Trump instead.

“I’m worried Biden’s going to lose to Trump,” Griffin said. “I don’t think we’re recognizing in 2020, when he beat Donald Trump, a potato could have beat Donald Trump. We were in a global pandemic. The economy was in free fall.”

Griffin said that it was too late for the Democratic Party to get another candidate to run instead of Biden, but she added that many people in the United States are frustrated with the president. She also said she is worried about Trump winning the presidential election “because of Joe Biden’s ego” and him not stepping aside for another candidate.

Co-host Sara Haines disagreed with Griffin’s assessment, arguing that Biden is not running in 2024 because of his ego but rather because Biden believes he can win against Trump in 2024. She acknowledged, however, that there are likely many voters who are not enthusiastic about a rematch between Trump and Biden.

Co-host Sunny Hostin, meanwhile, said there will not be an alternative to Biden because he has “run this country well,” and she said the president had a great track record based on his first term in office.

An Economist-YouGov poll from last month asked recipients to predict who would win the 2024 election, regardless of who they would prefer to win, with 44% saying Trump, 35% saying Biden, and 21% unsure. The recipients were split down the middle regarding support, with 43% saying they were supporting Biden and 43% supporting Trump.
