New York Jets owner Woody Johnson said voters remember that life was “better” under former President Donald Trump’s leadership.
Johnson, who also served as the U.S. ambassador to the United Kingdom during the Trump administration, made the observation when considering how U.S. citizens view the state of the economy, border security, and grocery prices. Trump has not won the Republican Party’s 2024 presidential nomination yet, but he has won the primary races held so far.
“Americans remember how good it was or how much better it was on the border, and inflation, and gas prices, and grocery prices, all that, during the Trump administration, and they want to get back there,” Johnson said on Fox News’s Sunday Morning Futures with Maria Bartiromo. “So I think the most important thing is getting the former president back in the White House, which looks like it’s happening.”
Johnson also called for the 2024 presidential election to be held just on Election Day, without early voting, except for those serving in the military. He claimed early voting rules changed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and that it is time to “change that back.”

Recent polling data for the 2024 election have been favorable for the former president, with Trump having a 22-point lead over President Joe Biden when respondents in a poll were asked which candidate would handle the economy better. Meanwhile, a separate poll released last month revealed that a majority of respondents believe Trump would beat Biden in a rematch, with 44% picking Trump, 35% saying Biden, and 21% unsure.
Biden, who is running for reelection this year, opted not to do an interview ahead of the Super Bowl, marking the second year in a row the president has skipped the big game. The move was criticized by Democratic strategist James Carville, who claimed it shows a lack of confidence to perform well.
