Left-wing activist David Hogg is apologizing to Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) after he alleged that the senator would not meet with him because he is “triggered.”

Hogg took to Twitter on Thursday to complain that Rubio refused to meet with him because he “triggers” the senator. However, Rubio’s chief of staff promptly responded, calling Hogg a liar.

The activist now says the tweet, which caused an uproar on social media, was “an honest mistake” and that “my staff misinformed me. I apologize.”

“Rubio staff said I can’t meet with him or his staff because I ‘trigger’ him. I just wanna have a conversation. Please meet with me @MarcoRubio I just want to figure out how we can stop these things from happening. We have to end the continuous debate and find what we can agree on,” Hogg said in a now-deleted tweet Thursday morning.

“No one said such a thing. As for the meeting, you must be confused as we had a 2p meeting scheduled with you. However, since you are lying and clearly using this all for self-promotion, that meeting is now cancelled,” Rubio’s chief of staff Michael Needham responded.

In a subsequent tweet, Hogg wrote, “Update he just canceled our meeting with his staff and @AMarch4OurLives staff.”

Soon after, the young anti-firearm activist deleted the tweets and posted an apology. “.@marcorubio an honest mistake, got our meetings confused in the flurry and my staff misinformed me. I apologize. We’d still love to meet with you and have an honest, respectful discussion. Deleted the tweet bc it wasn’t true but attaching here for transparency,” he explained.

Rubio’s office told the Washington Examiner, “We had a staff meeting scheduled for 2p today with March for Our Lives, of which he was a part of. For some reason (he now says he was misinformed by his staff), he tweeted that we refused to meet with him. Rubio’s chief tweeted subsequent to that and we canceled the meeting then.”

The office said, “We’re in touch with March for Our Lives about rescheduling” after Hogg’s apology.

Both Hogg and March for Our Lives did not respond to the Washington Examiner’s requests for comment.

March for Our Lives was started after the 2018 school shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High in Parkland, Florida. Hogg was a student at the school and is currently on the March for Our Lives board.

On Saturday, the group will march in Washington, D.C., and hold events around the country to protest gun violence and advocate stricter gun laws.

Hogg recently declined requests from Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) to meet while he was in Washington, D.C.

“.@davidhogg111 I hear you & your girls are funded to come to town this week to once again try to manipulate some of my gutless weak colleagues to vote for gun control that will violate our freedoms and leave Americans defenseless. I don’t see you on my schedule, why not?” she wrote in a recent tweet.

Don’t really have time to help you go viral for attacking survivors so you can fundraise. Respectfully, David,” Hogg responded.

On Wednesday, the activist briefly met Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), according to a tweet.

“I just bumped into Senator Lisa Murkowski and she agreed we must take action on gun safety and find the common ground. So far she’s the only person who is not a Democrat who is even been willing to speak with me. I would love to have a longer meeting @lisamurkowski,” he wrote.
