Lia Thomas fans will love the NCAA’s new president

If you are a fan of transgender swimmer Lia Thomas, then you will love the new NCAA president.

Late last week, the NCAA announced that Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker is replacing Mark Emmert as the organization’s president in March. Although Baker is a Republican, do not expect him to show any common sense when it comes to men dominating women’s college sports. His views of transgenderism are no different than the typical Democratic politician.

As governor, Baker and his administration have embraced woke gender ideology. In 2016, Baker signed a bill into law that allows people to pick which sex-segregated bathrooms and locker rooms they use based on their self-selected gender identity. Additionally, he supported upholding this law when a veto referendum appeared on the statewide ballot in 2018.

Now, in Massachusetts, men can have periods and get pregnant, while women have penises and demand Brazilian waxes of their male genitalia.

Since gender identity is a protected class in Massachusetts, boys who identify as girls can play girls’ school sports in the Commonwealth. Also, for decades in Massachusetts, boys who identify as boys have been able to play girls’ sports if their school does not offer their sport of choice for boys — such as field hockey, volleyball, and even girls’ soccer — and Baker has never addressed the topic.

The Baker administration’s embrace of woke gender ideology even goes beyond two genders.

Under the Baker administration, the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles began issuing gender “X” driver’s licenses for people who identify as a gender other than male or female in 2019. No law exists in Massachusetts that directs them to do it; former state representative Jim Lyons, who is now the chairman of the Massachusetts Republican Party, effectively killed a bill on it in 2018 by filing 73 amendments to the proposal, one for each gender option available on Facebook.

This is not the only place where the Baker administration embraces woke gender ideology. Departments in the Baker administration have replaced “mother” and “father” on certain government documents with the more politically correct “parent 1” and “parent 2.” After all, not every parent identifies as a mother or father.

The Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education has kept track of the number of students who identify as nonbinary since the 2019-2020 school year. The number nearly tripled in two years, a troubling phenomenon.

So if you were happy to see former University of Pennsylvania swimmer Lia Thomas, a man, win a Division 1 national championship in women’s swimming last school year, then Baker is a perfect fit for the NCAA.

He believes in the woke gender ideology that allows this nonsense to happen. Given his support for transgenderism, do not expect Baker to try to change the NCAA’s tolerance of men dominating in women’s sports. If you want sanity to prevail, Baker is a poor fit for the job.
