Eric Adams posts video of gunpoint robbery to support anti-gun units

New York City Mayor Eric Adams uploaded a disturbing video to social media Sunday night showing a woman and a child getting robbed to advocate the city’s anti-gun units.

The video shared by Adams showed two masked people dressed in dark clothing jumping a woman and her 3-year-old. The New York Police Department told the Washington Examiner the robbers stole her car keys, her wallet containing $1,500 in cash, an iPhone, and her Range Rover. A gun was not easily seen in the video, though one of the assailants was seen pulling something out of a bag he was holding.

The NYPD told the Washington Examiner the crime took place on March 9 and that one of the robbers, 23-year-old Carlos Guzman, was arrested on March 12. Guzman also had prior arrests.

New York City began the first wave of Adams’s anti-gun units on March 14 by having 168 officers from the New York Police Department’s Neighborhood Safety Teams placed into 28 areas where shootings have increased during the pandemic, according to the New York Post.

Adams’s press office told the Washington Examiner that in addition to the Neighborhood Safety Teams, the NYPD has launched the “Quality of Life” initiative, which will deploy NYPD officers across boroughs and bureaus to identify and respond to crime trends rapidly and to address the conditions that fuel them.

The press office also said Adams discussed the video when he visited a child care center in Queens on Monday. Adams said the video “had to send shock waves” through any New York resident who saw the video.
