The Arlington County Board will advertise a higher property tax rate again this year, proposing a rate 1 cent higher than county manager’s rate.
The board will hold public hearings in March on a property tax rate of 96.8 cents per $100 of assessed value. County Manager Barbara Donnellan proposed to keep the rate the same as last year, set at 95.8 cents.
The board cannot vote to adopt a rate higher than the 96.8 cents advertised, but can choose to adopt a lower rate. Officials are scheduled to vote on the new fiscal 2012 budget in April.
Board members also proposed fee increases for water and sewer rates, parking meter rates, and several parks and recreation departments.
“Our goal is to deliver a sustainable, balanced budget in April that spends tax dollars wisely, delivers core services efficiently and makes intelligent investments in the future,” said Chairman Chris Zimmerman.
