Pelosi wants Dems to ‘mobilize’ against Obamacare repeal

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi sent a letter to rank-and-file Democrats Monday asking them to make people aware of benefits that would be lost if Republicans follow through with their pledge to repeal Obamacare as early as January.

Pelosi told Democrats that on Tuesday, Health and Human Services Secretary Sylvia Burwell would send them a state-by-state list of how Obamacare is providing benefits.

“To protect the Affordable Care Act and Medicare, Democrats must move quickly to define and expose the consequences of Republicans’ deeply destructive repeal plan,” Pelosi wrote.

Democrats, who are in the minority, have little recourse if Republicans vote to repeal the law, which Pelosi played a major role in writing.

Republicans say they believe the law is in a death spiral thanks to collapsing health insurance exchanges and skyrocketing costs. Senate and House Republicans plan to vote to repeal Obamacare as soon as next month, and will likely allow a transition period until a replacement is passed.

Pelosi noted that President Obama discussed his signature healthcare law during his weekly address and appeared in a video about Obamacare alongside actor Bill Murray.

“There will continue to be an aggressive campaign to mobilize and inform the American people about the ACA,” Pelosi said.
