Elizabeth Warren’s 2020 presidential campaign has pushed out a senior aide following an external investigation into allegations of “inappropriate behavior.”
Rich McDaniel, national organizing director for the senior senator from Massachusetts, was ousted after her campaign “received multiple complaints” about his conduct, Warren spokeswoman Kristen Orthman told Politico.

“Over the past two weeks … the campaign retained outside counsel to conduct an investigation. Based on the results of the investigation, the campaign determined that his reported conduct was inconsistent with its values and that he could not be a part of the campaign moving forward,” Orthman said in a statement.
A person familiar with the inquiry told the news outlet the misconduct did not include sexual assault.
McDaniel, 34, did not immediately respond to the Washington Examiner‘s request for comment but confirmed his departure to Politico.
“I have tremendous respect for my colleagues despite any disagreements we may have had and believe departing at this time is in the best interest of both parties,” he said. “I would never intentionally engage in any behavior inconsistent with the campaign or my own values. If others feel that I have, I understand it is important to listen even when you disagree. I wish the campaign and my colleagues well.”
McDaniel, a Democratic operative with the Peter Damon Group, was previously Alabama Sen. Doug Jones’ field director and political director in 2017. The Georgia native also served as Hillary for America primary states regional director from 2015 to 2016, political director for Georgia U.S. Senate candidate Michelle Nunn in 2014, and Obama for America Georgia state field director in 2012.
