Trump to honor coronavirus victims by flying flags at half-staff

President Trump announced he would honor those who have died of COVID-19 by lowering the flag in the coming days.

Trump tweeted Thursday that all federal buildings will lower their flags to half-staff over the next three days to honor the near 95,000 people in the United States who have died from COVID-19.

“I will be lowering the flags on all Federal Buildings and National Monuments to half-staff over the next three days in memory of the Americans we have lost to the CoronaVirus,” Trump said on Twitter.

In a follow-up tweet, Trump said that flags would also be lowered to half-staff on Memorial Day next Monday to honor military veterans who have lost their lives.

“On Monday, the flags will be at half-staff in honor of the men and women in our Military who have made the Ultimate Sacrifice for our Nation,” Trump said.

Over 5 million people have tested positive for the coronavirus globally. Of those, at least 332,400 have died from it, and more than 1.94 million have recovered.

In the U.S., there have been at least 1.54 million confirmed coronavirus cases, more than 94,600 deaths, and 298,400 reported recoveries, according to the latest reading of the Johns Hopkins University tracker.
