Rockville man charged in murder-for-hire case

Montgomery County police charged a Rockville man for hiring someone to murder his estranged wife.

Richard Boyd, Jr., 42, was arrested on Friday after attempting to hire an unidentified subject to kill his wife, who Boyd was in the process of divorcing, police said. The subject learned Boyd was seeking to hire someone to commit the murder and has worked with the police in their investigation since September 30.

The subject met Boyd at his home on Friday, where he was given $1,000, five Oxycontin pills, and other items to help murder Boyd’s wife, police said. Officer arrested Boyd hours later elsewhere in Rockville.

Boyd is being held without bail until his bond review on Tuesday on one count of solicitation of first-degree murder and one count of distribution of a controlled dangerous substance.
