State Department: Russia, Iran a threat to Afghanistan

Russia and Iran might undermine Afghanistan’s central government by supporting the Taliban and other local forces, U.S. officials fear.

“The Russian influence has not been welcome,” Deputy Secretary of State John Sullivan, the second-highest ranking U.S. diplomat, told the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on Tuesday.
