LOS ANGELES (AP) — Los Angeles County prosecutors have charged a 38-year-old man in the fatal stabbing of his young son.
The district attorney’s office says Alejandro Santoyo Sanchez faces one count each of murder and assault on a child causing death.
Sanchez made a brief court appearance Monday but his arraignment was postponed until Oct. 8. He is being held on $1.2 million bail. His public defender, Diane Wiseman, did not immediately return a call for comment.
The charging document includes a special allegation that the defendant personally used a deadly and dangerous weapon.
Officials said sheriff’s deputies responding to a call early Sept. 18 in an unincorporated south county area found Sanchez covered in blood and screaming incoherently. The 6-year-old victim was found in a trailer and pronounced dead at a hospital.
