Georgia GOP Senate candidate Herschel Walker offered a terse defense Thursday, declaring that he has “already been forgiven” as fallout from the abortion scandal continues to fester.
Walker iterated his long-standing contention Thursday that reports saying he encouraged and paid for a woman to have an abortion are “totally, totally untrue.”

“I know this is untrue. I know it’s untrue. … I know nothing about any woman having an abortion. And they can keep coming at me like that, and they’re doing it because they want to distract people,” he told conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt. “I know that because, you know, I’ve already been forgiven. And if I’ve been forgiven, why in the world would I not be forgiven of something like that?”
Hewitt immediately interjected and pressed Walker if “there is anything you need to be forgiven for.”
“Well, that’s what’s so funny. And I’m saying I’ve been forgiven because of all of the things I did … with my ex-wife and all that,” Walker replied. “I hate to say I’ve been born again, but I have a new life. And I’ve been moving forward, and had that happened, I would have said it because it’s nothing to be ashamed of there.”

Recently, the Daily Beast revealed that the woman at the heart of its report on Monday, which unleashed a firestorm against Walker, was the mother of one of his children and wanted to stay anonymous for protection. She is a registered Democrat. The initial report cited a “get well” card and receipts as evidence he encouraged the abortion.
Walker’s son Christian, a conservative influencer with a considerable social media following, has since torn into Walker’s personal behavior, noting that he had four children with four different women and “wasn’t in the house raising one of them.” Christian Walker has rattled off a scathing flurry of social media posts against his father.
“I haven’t sat down with him since this story came out about me having other kids,” Herschel Walker told Hewitt about his son. “I think he’s extremely hurt from that, and that was totally, totally not true. And that’s what’s so sad, and we haven’t talked about it. … I love Christian. I love him with all my heart.”
Heavyweight Republicans such as former President Donald Trump and Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL) have rallied around Walker in the wake of the scandal. Walker has also mused about suing the Daily Beast over the story but so far has not filed a suit.

Georgia’s seat is critical to the GOP smashing through the 50-50 split control of the Senate. Walker is facing Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-GA), who has weathered his own controversy with women, standing accused of running over his ex-wife’s feet with a car during a domestic dispute.
Walker started closing the gap with Warnock in the polling last month, but now he appears to be losing support. Warnock leads him by 3.8 percentage points in the latest RealClearPolitics polling aggregate.
