With the International AIDS Conference taking place in Washington this week, HIV/AIDS activists from around the world have flocked to the city, including some super famous ones like actress Sharon Stone. Stone, wearing sunglasses, stopped by the Kiehl’s store in Georgetown Friday night to appear alongside actors including “Sex and the City’s” John Corbett and Gilles Marini and model Tyson Beckford, who were participating in Kiehl’s LifeRide, a 10-day motorcycle jaunt, to raise money and AIDS awareness.
At the crowded skincare store, Stone gave a passionate pep talk about finding a cure for AIDS. “Yes, I have lost people to AIDS, but there’s no one in this room whose life hasn’t been touched by the AIDS crisis,” Stone said. “When we stop and we think of the over 30 million people who have died of AIDS I think what’s happening this very second is absolutely appropriate and we should take this quiet moment together,” she said, just as the room quieted down. (The moment of silence was soon interrupted by someone banging loudly on the store’s door). “You, you, you, you, you or you could be the person who creates the cure,” she continued, pointedly gesturing at the reporters and bloggers who were surrounding her. (Ummm, probably not).
Afterward, she praised President Obama’s record on HIV/AIDS. “I think he’s doing very well,” she said. “My support for him has never wavered.”
