White House communications director Hope Hicks is set to testify before the House Intelligence Committee on Tuesday after the sudden delay of her interview last month, according to a report Monday.
The top White House aide’s testimony is part of the committee’s ongoing investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election, CBS News reports. Hicks was set to testify in January, but her appearance was postponed as counsel reportedly reviewed the range of her testimony.
Multiple sources told CNN last month that Hicks was set to be questioned in regards to any contact campaign associates may have had with Russian operatives during the 2016 presidential campaign.
Hicks has a longstanding relationship with the president and was involved in the crafting of a statement about the controversial June 2016 meeting between Trump’s eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., White House adviser and Trump son-in-law Jared Kushner, former campaign chairman Paul Manafort, and Kremlin-linked lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya. The statement was reportedly drafted while Hicks was aboard Air Force One and it is being speculated that the White House aide will be asked to address the process by which it was written when she is questioned by the committee.
