The national average price for regular gas increased on Wednesday, climbing to $3.125 per gallon, a nearly two-cent hike in 24 hours, according to AAA. On Tuesday, a gallon of regular gas was $3.107. The hike in gas prices came amid talks of the Trump administration placing tariffs on imports from Canada and Mexico. The tariffs were ultimately postponed for at least 30 days. 

Wednesday’s national average price of $3.125 is the same as it was on former President Joe Biden’s last day in office. Before today’s increase, the cost of gas had gradually declined since President Donald Trump took office. Incidentally, gas prices are less expensive today than they were a year ago, according to AAA.
