Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) said the Democratic Party needs to undergo a “major transformation” if it wants to have a future, citing a need to become a “multi-generational” party.
Sanders’s comment follows growing discontent within the Democratic Party over Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer’s (D-NY) leadership, specifically after he and several other Democrats sided with most Republican senators to pass the continuing resolution last week. As the Democratic Party continues to find its footing amid the Trump administration, Sanders called on the party to ditch its “consultant-driven party” presentation to voters for a new identity.
“The Democratic Party needs a major transformation,” Sanders wrote on X. “It can no longer be a top-down, billionaire-funded, consultant-driven party. It must be a multi-generational, multi-racial working class party. In a time of growing oligarchy & authoritarianism, that’s the only path to victory.”

The Breakfast Club’s Charlamagne tha God suggested the party’s approval rating is low because it has “no leadership” or “messaging.” The radio host added that it is “obvious” that the party needs to move on from Schumer’s leadership and that lawmakers failing to say this publicly is only contributing to speculation that the party is rudderless.

Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) was asked about the possibility of the party replacing Schumer in his leadership role. She said Democrats need to “sit down and take a look” at this matter, adding that voters are looking for “younger, fresher leadership” from their politicians.
Schumer revealed over the weekend that he has not spoken with House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) since helping Republican lawmakers pass the continuing resolution.
