Three D.C. police officers were arrested Tuesday afternoon in undercover operation, one day after another D.C. police officer was arrested for burglary in a separate sting, authorities said.
D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier said Officers Guillermo Ortiz, Silvestre Bonilla and Dioni Fernandez were charged with obtaining property that they knew was stolen. The three men were caught in an internal affairs sting and were arrested at the Fourth District headquarters in Northwest Washington.
Lanier said the officers were not working in tandem and the arrest was not connected to Monday’s arrest of Officer Jennifer Green, who was arrested after she participated in what she believed to be a burglary of a home in the 5500 block of Colorado Ave., NW.
The arrests were part of an 18-month campaign to weed out dishonest and corrupt officers, Lanier said.
“It’s a tragic thing that the officers not only take advantage of positions, but they tarnish image of the police department,” Lanier said.
