Trump Cites Nonexistent Tweet for Mike Tyson Endorsement

Donald Trump created a stir in Indiana Thursday by touting an endorsement by boxing legend (and convicted rapist) Mike Tyson (via the IndyStar):

“Mike Tyson endorsed me,” Trump told the crowd. “I love it. He sent out a tweet. Mike. Iron Mike. You know, all the tough guys endorse me. I like that, OK? “But Mike said, ‘I love Trump. I endorse Trump.’ And that’s the end. I’m sure he doesn’t know about your economic situation in Indiana. But when I get endorsed by the tough ones, I like it, because you know what? We need toughness now. We need toughness.”

The problem, however, is that a search of Tyson’s Twitter account reveals no such tweet. The only Tyson reference to Trump is from August 2014 regarding the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge.

This is not to say that Tyson has not endorsed the current GOP frontrunner. Last fall, Tyson told the Huffington Post, “He should be president of the United States… Let’s run America like a business, where no colors matter[.] Whoever can do the job, gets the job.”

According to TMZ, Tyson did not even back off his endorsement of Trump in December when Trump suggested banning Muslims from entering the country:

“Hey listen, anybody that was ever President of the United States offended some group of people,” Tyson said at the airport in D.C. “He deserves a chance.”

Trump has not responded to an inquiry regarding the missing Tyson tweet. The source of Tyson’s alleged words “I love Trump. I endorse Trump.” is also unclear.
