Metro on Wednesday fired a Metrobus driver who was arrested earlier this month after allegedly displaying a knife to a motorist while operating his bus, the latest transit driver let go after reports of misconduct.
Dwayne Adamson, a bus driver for three years, was arrested April 2 after a traffic dispute in Southeast Washington during the evening commute, according to Metro.
He had been operating a U2 Route bus when he got into an argument with another motorist, Metro said. Police pulled his bus over on Minnesota Avenue around 5 p.m.
The driver had been on paid administrative leave until he was fired Wednesday, said Metro spokeswoman Lisa Farbstein. He could not be reached for comment.
The Adamson incident was the latest in a string of Metro employee mishaps. Last week, the agency fired a bus driver arrested on a charge of soliciting sex from an undercover police officer while driving a bus. A MetroAccess driver was fired April 8 after he was charged with a third-degree sex offense and second-degree assault in connection with a reported sexual assault involving a MetroAccess customer on Jan. 28. Metro also fired a bus driver last month who had been photographed texting from behind the wheel.
Last year, the agency had said it was tightening its hiring standards and its disciplinary actions after a series of similar problems with drivers.
