Md. one step closer to legalizing gay marriage

Maryland is one step closer to legalizing same-sex marriages after a key committee on Friday gave the House of Delegates a green light to begin floor debate.

The House Judiciary Committee voted 12-10 to give preliminary approval to the same-sex marriage bill after a three-day delay. The bill now goes to the House of Delegates for a vote. The bill already whisked through the Senate, where it was passed 24-21. If the House approves the bill, it could land on Gov. Martin O’Malley’s desk by the end of next week.
