The Judicial Crisis Network will spend more than $500,000 on a new television and digital ad campaign thanking President-elect Trump for his campaign promises on filling the Supreme Court’s vacant seat.
“The American people want justices that are strong and independent to protect our Constitution and make sure its meaning is preserved,” a narrator says in the new ad. “And because of Donald Trump, the next Supreme Court justice will do just that.”
The right-leaning group began running the 30-second TV spot in Washington, D.C., New York City, and South Florida on Sunday. This is the second ad in a series the Judicial Crisis Network is rolling out in the coming weeks and months about the Supreme Court. The first thanked Iowa Sen. Chuck Grassley for helping block President Obama’s nominee to fill the vacancy created by Justice Antonin Scalia’s death.
The Judicial Crisis Network spent $5 million on TV and digital advertising to help block Merrick Garland’s confirmation, and is eager to see who Trump will select next.
“The president-elect promised to make America great again — one of the best ways to do that is to make good on his promise to select judges who will carry on the legacy of the late Justice Antonin Scalia who will honor and respect the Constitution,” said Carrie Severino, chief counsel of the Judicial Crisis Network, in a statement.
