Welcome to our New Year, New You series! I hope that your first week in 2008 is off to a successful start. Below are a few tips to ensure that your resolutions stick and that your new year dreams are fulfilled:
» Review your resolutions. If you haven’t written them down yet, do so now. What’s tugging at your heartstrings? Is a new job your priority? Revitalizing a relationship? Losing those extra holiday pounds? Make sure that you have touched on the numerous facets of your life from spirituality to creativity to education so that you find a holistic balance this year.
» Frame your favorites. To ensure that your resolutions stay at the forefront of your mind, write your highest aspirations down and place them where you’ll see them daily. I like to write them on note cards and hang them from a ribbon with clothespins
near my desk. Another option is to print them from your computer and put them into a decorative frame to place on your desk or post them on your refrigerator — someplace where you reside or visit regularly.
» Keep keeping on. Of course there will be days when the alarm goes off signifying it’s time to meditate or go for your morning run and you’ll be tempted to hit the snooze button. Instead, remember the big picture and take a seat on your meditation cushion even for a few minutes to help create the habit. If, however, the snooze button prevails, don’t fret. Pick yourself up, meditate later that day, or simply resolve to make it to the cushion the next morning.

» Create a vision board with images that represent your ideal self, find a running or meditation buddy to help hold you accountable and make your resolution more playful, and remember Rome wasn’t built in one day. Be patient and breathe deeply.
