BEAUMONT, Texas (AP) — Police in Southeast Texas have fatally shot an 80-year-old man who refused to drop his rifle after a woman reported being shot at by her landlord.
Beaumont police on Wednesday identified the man as Stanley Leger (LAY’-zhay), who was a taxidermist in Beaumont.
Sgt. Rob Flores Jr. says a woman called 911 on Tuesday night to say a man across the street fired at her as she was outside a residence. She wasn’t hurt.
Police say Leger carried a rifle as officers arrived and refused to drop the weapon. Leger was shot after pointing the rifle at an officer, who was not injured.
Leger died at a Beaumont hospital.
The officer has been placed on administrative duty.
Flores had no information on whether the woman and Leger had a dispute.
