POMONA, Calif. (AP) — A Southern California man has pleaded not guilty to giving his girlfriend a deadly dose of heroin while she was hospitalized for a drug-related infection.

Steven Crow entered pleas Monday in Pomona to murder and transporting a controlled substance.

He remains jailed Tuesday. A call to his public defender, Lisa Washington, wasn’t immediately returned.

He’s charged with killing 31-year-old Rebecca Henry with a heroin overdose in May 2012.

Police say the woman had been admitted to a Pomona hospital with an infection related to intravenous drug use.

Prosecutors and police haven’t said whether Crow intended to kill his girlfriend or her death was an accident.

If convicted, Crow faces 16 years to life in prison if convicted.
