New book of Michelle Obama photographs in the White House coming in October

Former first lady Michelle Obama’s White House photographer is publishing a book of photos from her time covering Mrs. Obama during her husband’s second term.

Ten Speed Press announced Tuesday that “Chasing Light: Michelle Obama Through the Lens of a White House Photographer” will be released Oct. 17 with 150 color photos and commentary by White House photographer Amanda Lucidon.

The book gives “a rare insider’s perspective, from documenting life at the White House to covering domestic and overseas travel,” Ten Speed Press said in a statement.

Lucidon covered Michelle Obama for four years, traveling with her to 20 countries as the only female White House photographer at the time.

“Mrs. Obama is a source of light and inspiration in my life,” Lucidon said in the statement. “She was a mentor to me and so many people around the world. The work she has done with young people, especially girls and underserved youth, has helped me realize that I want to spend my life helping others reach their full potential.”

Former chief White House photographer Pete Souza is also coming out this fall with his own book of photographs of former President Barack Obama titled, “Obama: An Intimate Portrait.”
