D.C. police probing transgender attacks

D.C. police are investigating whether a weekend attack on a transgender person in Northeast is linked to the July 20 fatal shooting of a transgender woman a block away.

Police said a man approached the person on the 6200 block of Dix Street NE at about 2:45 a.m. Sunday. The man asked the victim for change, then brandished a handgun and fired shots. The person wasn’t hit. Police said the victim was transgender, but released no other information.

The suspect is described as black, between 17 and 19 years old, about 5 feet 6 inches tall and 180 pounds.

Police said the attack is similar to the shooting that killed Myles “Lashay” Mclean on the 6100 block of Dix Street NE last month. No one has been arrested in that case.

The cases are being investigated as a “potential emerging pattern,” police said in a statement.

Police say extra officers have been assigned to patrol the area and authorities are distributing flyers about the two shootings.
