RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Dominion Resources says its natural gas transportation subsidiary has placed its pipeline between West Virginia and Pennsylvania into service.

The Richmond, Va.-based energy company said Tuesday that the Appalachian Gateway project was built on time and within budget.

The project was expected to cost $600 million when first announced in 2009. A final cost was not released.

Dominion says the project will allow for the delivery of 484,260 dekatherms per day of natural gas produced in West Virginia and southwest Pennsylvania.

The company constructed four new natural gas compressor stations and upgraded two existing stations for the project. It also constructed about 110 miles of new pipeline.

Dominion Resources is one of the nation’s largest producers and transporters of energy and has the nation’s largest natural gas storage system.
