‘One extremely violent night’: 17 people shot in less than two hours during bloody night in Cincinnati

More than a dozen people were shot in Cincinnati, Ohio, in three separate incidents that took place within a span of three hours overnight Saturday.

A total of 17 people were shot, including two people possibly having been killed in the city, according to the Associated Press.

Ten people were shot in the city’s Over-the-Rhine neighborhood, with two other incidents in the Walnut Hills neighborhood, and in Avondale, Assistant Police Chief Paul Neudigate told local media.

“One extremely violent night in the city of Cincinnati,” Neudigate told reporters. “Looking at possibly 17 victims, up to four that could be fatal at this time. Why? That’s going to be the question.”

The police said they do not believe the incidents were connected but called them “horrific and tragic.”

Cincinnati, like several major U.S. cities, has seen an uptick in violent crime in recent months amid protests and riots sparked by the death of George Floyd on Memorial Day.
